Studying the Word of God in a systematic fashion is crucial to our spiritual health. A good way to develop that discipline is by studying a book of the Bible. In June and July 2014, Dig Deeper will feature devotions on the Epistles of John. Each week we will focus on the content of one chapter.

When you study a book of the Bible, here are some important questions to consider:

  • Who wrote the book?
  • To whom was it written?
  • Why did the author write the book? What problems does he address? What solutions does he offer?
  • Do I encounter similar problems? How can I apply the author’s solutions to my life?
  • What role does this book play in God’s big picture–the story of redemption?
  • What does this book teach us about God and how He interacts with human beings?
