An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins. ” Matthew 1:20-21

From the moment Gabriel appeared to Joseph, the reason of Jesus’ birth was clear–He was coming to save people from their sins, not from the Romans. And Jesus Himself repeatedly proclaimed that He had come to “give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45).

The devotions in Dig into Easter examine the people, themes, and songs related to the greatest story ever told: God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us so that we might be reconciled to Him and live eternally in heaven with Him (John 3:16). That is the central message of the Bible in every book and every narrative.
