Prophecies Fulfilled in the Easter Story

God Keeps His Promises

Somewhere on the road of my faith journey, I heard the adage, “The New is in the Old concealed; the Old is in the New revealed.” Most credit Augustine as the first to say it.[1] I, Denise, grew up in a home that valued both the Old and New Testaments. My dad taught home Bible studies for many years, and I often attended them. In those studies, he meticulously pointed out prophecies in the Old Testament that were fulfilled in the New Testament.

This series of Lenten and Easter series will draw from the hundreds of Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in the New Testament. For example, “the virgin birth” in Matthew 1:18 was prophesied in Genesis 3:15 as “the Seed of a woman.” The Messiah as a “suffering servant,” described in Luke 23:41 and the other gospels, was prophesied in Isaiah 52:13–15 and 53:3.

God’s attention to detail down through history fills Nancy and me with hope. We pray that this series will fuel your hope and trust in a God who is concerned about every detail of your life too. He is a God who keeps his promises–every one of them.
